Journo Resources and Journalists’ Charity Team Up On New Mentoring Scheme10/07/2025
We are delighted to be partnering with Journo Resources to provide a new drop-in mentoring scheme, designed to support working journalists looking to take their next steps within the industry.
The Moving Forwards Mentoring Scheme will allow UK-based journalists to book one-to-one calls with experienced mentors who can offer support on job applications, next steps, building confidence, and more.

Geoff Mayor (1942- 2025)04/07/2025
Geoff Mayor, one of the first photographers on the scene of John Lennon’s assassination, has died aged 83 in Leamington Spa. He was a long-time champion of the Journalists’ Charity.
Geoff joined Heart of England Newspapers in 1967 after working in the East Midlands.
While senior photographer for the Courier and Leamington Morning News, in 1973 he won the prestigious Press Photographer of the Year Award.

Paul Jones, a former journalist and head of foundation training at PA Media has been elected Chair of trustees of the Journalists’ Charity, replacing Christine Warwick who served in the post since 2021.
Alison Gow has been elected Deputy Chair.

Gill Smith joins the board of trustees04/06/2025
Gill was named Editor of The Scottish Sun on International Women’s Day in 2021. She is the first female Editor of The Scottish Sun.
An award-winning journalist, Gill has worked in media for over 30 years and at The Scottish Sun for the last 17 where she is responsible for content across seven days and across all platforms. -

Jasper Carrott lunch keeps up the fundraising pace…03/05/2025
What a day to remember – a full house, laughter galore and raising thousands for our charity.
It was a very special event held at Edgbaston Cricket Club in Birmingham where legendary comedian Jasper Carrott performed a set to mark his 80th birthday.
On mega form, the 325-strong audience were in stitches, mesmerised by the quick fire gags.
