Her Majesty the Queen became Patron of the Journalists’ Charity in 2024 following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II who had held the role since her coronation in 1952.

Her Majesty, who has strong family links to journalism, has been actively involved in efforts to highlight the role of journalists at home and abroad in recent years.

The charity’s Royal Patronage dates back to 1890 when Queen Victoria, who made personal donations to what was then known as the Press Fund, granted Royal Charter status.

Since then, the organisation has been represented by Kings, Queens and many other members of the Royal family as part of its mission to help and support journalists nationwide.
