Former ITV News editor Geoff Hill posthumously given Public Service prize at British Journalism Awards supported by the Journalists’ Charity.

Geoff Hill, the ITV News editor who died in September aged 52, was posthumously given the Public Service Award at the British Journalism Awards 2021.

We’re looking for work which will have appeared between 1 October 2020 and 30 September 2021. Work published or broadcast between 1 March 2020 and 30 September 2021 relating to the COVID pandemic ONLY will also be accepted.

Founded by Charles Dickens and a fellowship of parliamentary writers in the 1860s the Journalists’ Charity, formerly known as the Newspaper Press Fund, was set up to support the journalists who provided political challenge and scrutiny on behalf of society.

The Journalists’ Charity is excited to announce a new partnership with the National Council for the Training of Journalists aimed at boosting support for journalists and trainees.

Following the recent launch of the first jobs fund – which provides financial assistance to new journalists, the charity is extending its support offer with a donation to the NCTJ’s Journalism Diversity Fund.

The Journalists’ Charity is delighted to announce that it is partnering with Tortoise, to offer all Journalists’ Charity beneficiaries a free 12-month membership to the ‘slow news’ organisation.

Tortoise has grown rapidly to offer an innovative model for storytelling that welcomes public opinion to influence the news agenda.

‘Mail Force’, a charity set-up by the Daily Mail in response to the Covid-19 pandemic has been honoured with the Journalists’ Charity’s Special Award at the National Press Awards. The initiative has brought together businesses, celebrities, and thousands of readers to make a huge difference – demonstrating the power of newspapers to make things happen.

Christine, who succeeds Ramsay Smith in the role, has spent a long career in and around the media in both newspaper journalism and public relations. Based in Wales, Christine represents the charity’s Welsh committee on the national council of trustees and is actively involved in the organisation of the annual Wales Media Awards.
