Editors and their journalists are being invited to submit their work for judging in the 2023 London Press Club and Cudlipp awards taking place on October 17 at Stationers’ Hall

The Journalists’ Charity has donated a £1,000 cash prize to the winner of the London Press Club’s Young Journalist of the Year Award. Print, digital and broadcast journalists aged 26 or under are eligible.

One of the things that distinguished Ann Leslie from the common herd of journalists of our age was just exactly that. She was never a member of any herd.

It meant that on any story where Fleet Street’s finest were to be found in massed expectation, all carefully keeping the competition under scrutiny, Ann would always be somewhere else.

Veteran Journalists’ Charity fundraiser Gerry Armes celebrated his 95th birthday this weekend at his home in Solihull. Gerry has been championing the interests of journalists and their dependants for more than 70 years and has been responsible for raising more than £350,000 with the charity’s West Midlands Committee where he was district chairman until in 2008.

The annual awards, organised by the Wales branch of the Journalists’ Charity, have been running since 2014. The 2023 awards will be held at Cardiff’s prestigious Parkgate Hotel for a glittering evening of networking and celebration.

A very special fun evening at Birmingham Repertory Theatre has raised a substantial sum for the Journalists’ Charity, with the receipts still being counted.

Billed as a Night of Stars, it featured a Jasper Carrott and Friends compilation marking ITV newscaster Bob Warman’s near 50 years in television.

We are delighted to invite you to join us to remember the life and work of Jean Morgan, former chief reporter at Press Gazette and charity trustee.

A special memorial service will take place at St Bride’s Church, Fleet St on Thursday May 4 at 11.30.

Jean’s family would like to extend this invitation to all her friends and colleagues. Drinks will be held nearby at a venue that will be announced in due course.
