All of us at the Journalists’  Charity are saddened by the death of Stuart McCartney who was  a stalwart of the charity for so many years.

Stuart, known affectionately throughout his career as The Bullet, volunteered as the charity’s welfare officer in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.

We are delighted to announce our friends Women in Journalism are supporting the Charity at their flag ship event next week ( April 18)

Journalists’ Charity supporters are welcome to attend at the members rate of £10 ( in person) or £2 (online).

A book of fascinating news photos by one of the country’s top photojournalists Bernard “Bunny” Hess has raised a further £1,000 for The Journalists Charity.

“Bunny” was regarded as “Mr. Birmingham” and a tribute in the Birmingham Mail said he “captured Brum like no other news photographer”.

This year, like every year since our foundation in 1864, the Journalists’ Charity has helped to keep food on the table and a roof over head for many journalists struggling through tough times.

Here are some real stories from the hundreds of journalists we’ve helped this year alone.

The Journalists’ Charity’s Wales Media Awards 2023 have raised more than £9,000 to help journalists in need.

The event, held in Cardiff’s Parkgate Hotel on November 10, was attended by 200-plus guests from across the industry in Wales and the rest of the UK.
