As Spring brings new life and hope for the future, we wanted to share some good news about the charity’s efforts to provide help and support to struggling journalists and their families. Although a recent fall in inflation will be a relief to many, the impact of cost-of-living rises over the last few years is still being acutely felt. In the last 12 months, the charity has experienced a marked increase in the number of financial assistance awards given to working journalists, many of whom were caught out by huge increases in housing and energy costs. There has also been a big rise in the number of ‘first time’ applicants, with many journalists affected by lost work, job losses or redundancies. Meanwhile the first jobs fund, our unique assistance scheme created to help young journalists at the start of their careers has now supported more than 50 stars of the future with cash support towards accommodation, relocation, and essential equipment.
Hopefully, this Easter weekend will be a time of peace and happiness for you and your loved ones. But if you’re struggling, or you know someone who might be experiencing a tough time, we’re here to help.
Always.
Happy Easter,
The Journalists’ Charity
