All of us at the Journalists’ Charity are saddened by the death of Stuart McCartney who was a stalwart of the charity for so many years.
Stuart, known affectionately throughout his career as The Bullet, volunteered as the charity’s welfare officer in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.
Stuart was chief reporter of the Scottish Daily Express and Daily Star in Scotland and also worked for the Sunday Express. He was widely regarded as one of the finest journalists Scotland produced and was highly respected by fellow reporters and editors throughout the UK.
“Stuart was selfless in his help over many years for journalists who found themselves in difficult circumstances and our charity owed him a great debt of gratitude”, said James Brindle, chief executive of the charity. “Stuart was held in the highest regard by his many friends throughout journalism and will be sorely missed.”
