Charity sponsors Scottish Scoop of the Year Award

The Journalists’ Charity was proud to sponsor the Scoop of the Year award at the 46th Scottish Press Awards ceremony in Glasgow on Thursday (May 22).

The Scoop of the Year award was presented this year in honour of the late Stuart ‘Bullet’ McCartney, a stalwart volunteer for the charity in Scotland for more than 50 years and a renowned national newspaper reporter.

Jackie Bird, the awards ceremony host, described ‘the Bullet’ as a true legend of Scottish journalism, a dedicated supporter of the charity and a man who made many journalists’ lives better, both professionally and personally.

The Scoop of the Year award was presented to Graham Mann of the Scottish Sun for his exclusive story on Stuart Hogg, the Scotland Rugby internationalist and former captain, facing court and a criminal charge for domestic abuse.

The award was presented on behalf of the Journalists’ Charity by trustee, Ramsay Smith.

John McLellan, Director of Newsbrands Scotland, organisers of the awards, said: “I am delighted we could align the charity with the awards, ensuring the charity’s work was highlighted in front of 300 plus journalists at the premier event for Scottish journalism.”

A collection and raffle was held at the awards ceremony in aid of the charity.
