Covid-19: supporting journalists through crisis

12 October, 2020

Since March, the Journalists’ Charity has helped hundreds of journalists whose lives have been affected by the impact of coronavirus.

At the outset of the crisis, we promised to give all applicants a rapid response to their enquiries, helping to minimise stress by allocating financial support as quickly as possible.

As a result, many journalists were given vital assistance during a critical time, often while waiting for government support, or for work opportunities to return.

During this period the charity gave emergency support to twelve journalists and their families who were facing homelessness. The lives of dozens of others would have been severely disrupted had they not received financial assistance from the charity.

While for some, the future is looking more positive with work prospects returning, the industry continues to face major challenges in the wake of the pandemic. The charity stands ready to help and will continue to play it’s part to support journalists nationwide. As well as offering confidential advice and financial assistance, a number of free online sessions are being offered, with a new industry outreach service highlighting the charity’s role in workplaces.

As always, thank you for your support.
