1. Eligibility
Applicants must be aged between 18 and 30, resident in the UK, and either employed in journalism or, if freelance, earning their full-time income from working in the sector.
2. Financial Need
The Awards are intended to support individuals who are unable to access funding from other sources. Applicants will be asked to demonstrate their financial need as part of the application process.
3. Use of Award Funds
Award funds may be used towards: professional training and skills development; equipment required for work projects; relocation or accommodation costs essential to a job or new role; and travel costs essential for work purposes.
4. Mentoring and Coaching
Mentoring and coaching support is optional and offered subject to availability within the Charity’s existing schemes. Applicants are under no obligation to accept this support.
5. Awards Ceremony
Successful applicants and one guest will be invited to an awards ceremony in February 2027, which Her Majesty Queen Camilla is expected to attend. Full details will be sent to successful applicants ahead of the event.
6. Number of Awards
The Charity currently offers 25 awards per year. This number may be subject to change at the Charity’s discretion.
7. Selection Process
All applications are reviewed confidentially by an experienced panel, which selects recipients based on the published eligibility and assessment criteria. The Charity’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding individual decisions.
8. Outcome Notification
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application. Where an unsuccessful applicant may be eligible for other forms of support from the Charity, a member of the team will make contact separately.
